I REMEMBER CARRYING HIM ON Easter Island. We were up a mountain and he was quite ill and I had to carry him - but he was a small man, and I'm fairly large and I carried him like a baby and it should have been a very moving time...

But what Bruno was concerned about was whether we had the right camera angle on him and if the sun was in the right place - and I'm staggering back down the mountain like in some greek tragedy.

Bruno was an ego. He was difficult. He was brilliant. He was childish. He was wise. - All in the same man - peevish or magnanimous.

He was 4' 11" in height and 10' 5" in presence. I've always taught that you should have arrogance before men and humility before your subject and I learnt that from Bruno.
